Sumo: Champions wear Martial Thongs

Sumos wear the martial thong (mawashi) proudly. Not only is their skin thick for physical abuse. Sumos are thick-skinned to endure verbal abuse and it makes them champions. The latest champion to endure this hardship is Terunofuji Haruo. 

Terunofuji went 12-3 during the latest Grand Sumo Tournament. Beating out both Yokozuna's for the best record in the tournament. At the start of the tournament he was ranked Sekiwake or "Sumo Junior Champion". Sekiwake is the third best ranking behind Ozeki and Yokozuna. However after the tournament, he was promoted to Ozeki ranking.

Day 2: Defeated Osunaarashi by Yorikiri
Day 3: Defeated Tochiozan by Yorikiri
Day 4: Defeated Ichinojo by Owatenage

Day 6: Defeated Kitataiki by Kirikaeshi
Day 7: Defeated Ozeki Kotoshogiku by Yorikiri
Day 8: Defeated Tamawashi by Kotenage
Day 9: Lost to Tokushoryu by Yorikiri
Day 10: Defeated Toyonoshima by Kimedashi
Day 11: Lost to Yokozuna Hakuho by Uwatedashinage
Day 12: Defeated Ozeki Kisenosato by Shitatenage
Day 13: Defeated Takayasu by Okuridashi
Day 14: Defeated Myogiryu by Oshidashi
Day 15: Defeated Aoiyama by Yorikiri

Regardless of the cultural clothing associated with martial arts or sports, those who train the hardest, endure the most pain, and have an enormous fighting spirit will become champions.
